Actually, there is no need to maintain anything in Washington. The studio can be 25 miles out or within city grade of something else licensed to Washington (and WERO city-grades most of eastern NC). As an example - WNCN/17, the NBC affiliate for Raleigh-Durham, is licensed to Goldsboro, but the studio and offices are just inside the beltline in north Raleigh.

Also - dopplers can easily be moved. WRAL bought a new one a few years ago and sent the old one to Hoke(?) County.

Excited about the Dick's construction. Been hearing that rumor for years ever since Kohls came, glad it's finally a go. As much sports are Greenville has, it should workout pretty good. Should also help that shopping area, maybe they will be able to get some tenants in others empty stores around the fresh market.

I walked downtown or um...Uptown to eat lunch today. The Quarry (the new place where Boli's was) has signage up & it looks very good & up-class. I peeked inside the open door as they were bringing in equipment & it looked like it's going to be nice. They had stone all over the place. I'm not sure what kind of food they'll have but it looks as promising as anything has since Winslows.

The city needs to have some sort of sign ordinance for uptown businesses. If they could just get some of the places down there to look as nice on the outside as they do on the inside, it sure would help. Granted, some of those clubs are trash, but some are actually pretty nice inside but look like hell outside. They also need to get rid of the stupid paintings on the side of the walls...ie..Levels. They don't have an entrance on 5th street but have their name painted on the building (the building is red & ugly) & have a fake door painted with handles on it. WTH?? paint the building a nice neutral color like khaki & hang signage up with "entrance around...wherever"

Do these clubs own the buildings or are they 'renting them'. If they own it I wish they'd step up to the plate & clean it up if they are renting there is part of the problem...but a few ordinances could fix that. If the businesses didn't want to abide by them, fine...get out & move on. One less trashy club to deal with.

I'm hoping in 10 years from now Uptown will be a safe place you'll go to eat dinner with your family & friends & not worry about being shot or mugged.

Getting people walking in Raleigh, NC

BBC News - How to get America to walk

I found this video about getting people walking in Raleigh. Found it interesting in that Greenville faces many of the same challenges on a smaller scale. We've done a good job of putting in sidewalks all around the city, which is a great start.

Greenville needs to start a New Uptown Greenville website or something like this:

http://www.newraleigh.com/

hearing rumors of a Costco going where Home Depot use to be...anyone have any info on this? This is the first I've hear of it, but it would be great if true. Another option besides Sam's.

Greenville is starting to get the the point that this bigger market businesses are starting to look at us. Hopefully the ball will start to roll with other good places

Also, it looks like the second Wal-Mart on 10th Street is a go.

I don't think we could handle a Costco just yet; maybe after Pitt County doubles its population in size or if they open a smaller store here. And I never really walked around downtown (although I lived there in a wonderful loft for years) except on Fifth Street or to the library so I decided to take a walk around a few days ago and take some photographs.

Enjoy
