Wanted to start a discussion about the best places to eat BBQ style food in the area.

I humbly submit my newest find...Pete's Wycked Grill at the corner of Fire Tower and Evans.

The best ribs I have ever had...period! Everything else I have tried on the menu is amazing! I highly recommend Pete's! Enjoy!!!

"B's" on B's Barbecue Rd. They serve other foods but the barbecue is unparalleled in it's taste, portion size and tenderness.

B's is hands down the best in Greenville. Parker's in Wilson isn't half bad, but avoid the Parker's in Greenville. King's in Kinston is alright too. Skylight Inn in Ayden is an abomination that uses Texas Pete to coat their pork, ugh.

Simp's in Roper was the best Eastern style restuarant, no contest, but they're long gone.

Tommy Moore's down in New Bern is pretty good. Ribs on Saturday only.

"BBQ style food"--what is that? Around here, barbecue is a noun. Not a verb, not an adjective, but a word used specifically to describe the pinnacle of culinary human endeavor--slow cooked over wood coals, whole hog, vinegar-based sauce with NO TOMATO.

And yes, B's is the word.

To be honest the best place to eat barbecue is at a proper pig pickin off a converted oil drum after a long day of tending the cooker and nursing a glass of bourbon, surrounded by friends and family.

Indeed. The only thing that could possibly approach this is the barbecue cooked by many NC country churches at their autumn "ingatherings". I don't know where these guys come from, or where they hide during the rest of the year, but they mysteriously show up at the ingatherings to cook some of the best meat you'll ever put in your mouth.

B's is the best in Greenville.

Down the road in Ayden, the Skylight Inn is the best in the state.

Pete's Wicked isn't NC bbq. Dine at your own risk. If you're from off, it's probably ok.

Yes! Except give me Yeungling for my choice of drink . There is nothing I enjoy more than doing this though. My dad has actually built a few oil drum cookers for the family.

I like Parker's and The Skylight Inn around the G-ville area. King's in Kinston has ok BBQ. Sometimes it's a hit and miss.

Glad to see this comment. I stopped by once, after hearing about it, and I was totally underwhelmed. Actually amazed. Must have been on of "miss" nights.
