2) Flats: West bank has one more 12 story building and a few more stores open around it's base. East bank is about 80% bulldozed and construction is planned to begin this year.

3) Warehouse District: Still waiting on Stark's word...but he did move his headquarters from the suburbs to the warehouse district downtown late last year, so progress is hopefully looming.

4) Lakefront: Should be coupled with later phases of east bank flats/warehouse district in some parts. Overall, still a couple decades away. The plan has been approved to relocate the entire port to E. 55, but that will take about 20 years.

5) Euclid Corridor: Coming along now ahead of the Dec 31st schedule. Should be fully completed by Oct/Nov of this year. The completed sections look amazing!

The lakefront really needs the damn Burke Lakefront airport to go away!

BKL is the 4th busiest airport in Ohio in terms of takeoffs and landings at 55,000/yr. It is also one of only 7 non-military airports in the state that can land large, wide bodied aircraft (747, 767, A340, etc.). The FAA has no interest in letting it close. Lakefront development can still occur with it being there. As always, it comes down to development dollars.

Cool article from the NYT.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/29/tr...epurposed.html

There's a point where a city like Cleveland realizes that age is one of its greatest strengths, not a weakness.

Standard Building near Public Square will become apartments, after sale to Weston, Inc. (gallery) | cleveland.com

And so it continues...

"Last year, downtown Cleveland absorbed 800 units of housing without any reduction in occupancy," said Joe Marinucci, president and chief executive officer of the Downtown Cleveland Alliance. "We're still at about 95 percent. This year, we have about 1,100 units under construction that will come online within the next 18 months. Early pre-leasing information from those developers indicates that there's continuous demand."

Anyone who questions why downtown developmet is so important needs to absorb the quote above. It's all about developing a critical mass of residents who live, work, and play in and near downtown. When that happens, everybody reaps the benefits.
