New Orleans does have more vibrancy and activity. But as far as how nice it is, activities, entertainment, structural appeal, etc.. I like Dallas and Houston a little bit more. Just because there's no people there doesn't mean the downtown isn't great, lol.
If it was great, there would be more people there.
Houston, Dallas, and LA, while they have nice skylines and medium density, pale against New Orleans, Minneapolis and Baltimore.
I never been to Houston or Dallas. But, I am very familiar with downtown LA and downtown Minneapolis (I have never been to New Orleans, ever, and I've only been through Baltimore on I-95). But, how is downtown Minneapolis better than downtown Los Angeles? You'll have to explain that one to me. I'm very familiar with both (I'm actually in one of them right now, as I type this), and I just don't know what you're talking about. Downtown LA is better than downtown Minneapolis.

I have been to both and they used to be somewhat close, but unless DT Minneapolis has absolutely exploded with growth in the last few years DTLA has pulled way ahead. I was just in DTLA a few Saturdays ago and was floored by the amount of restaurants that had opened in just the last 6 months along with the number of people walking around. I don't know where to rank it because other downtowns have perhaps seen the same rebirth, but it's been amazing to watch. I don't think that many downtowns hit as close to bottom as LA did and came back so quickly. I think that it's probably 2nd tier now, or if not it will be soon.

You can't take anything on City-Data as if it was written in stone " what you see is just persons opinionals" (Ill reguardless of how foolish they are) take them as they are just some unknown on the internet speaking their's own little warped realities.

LA in some ways is like Philly 20 years ago, an exciting time and getting better quickly. I think LA is among the likes of Seattle these days, maybe only outdone by 6 or so DTs (NYC, Chicago, Philly, Boston, SF, DC)
good to see cities like LA and DC (probably from a better starting point) realizing more of their potential. LA has great bones and could be a great DT with continued improvement
Have you been to both? Barren streets in downtown Houston versus the full streets in New Orleans...
Just am curious what is considered the NOLA DT, it is rather small, ok in the CBD but more action seems in the quarter or in the garden district to me. I really enjoy NOLA but the CBD seems quiet at times, do love mothers though and the debris
