sideshows are very family oriented, chucky cheese went bankrupt in this city because of them.
Oakland's never had a Chucky Cheese. Next.

They've only been happening for years, and its picked to happen on certain holidays... common now...This isnt the Atlanta freaknik, Galveston kappa.. Sideshows havent died in decades... and they are illegal as hell..
Uh, I think someone's been relying too much on youtube videos for information.

if that isnt ghetto then what the hell is? some country town with poverty and white people having gold teeth? (Houston, Dallas, Miami)
Actually I dont have an issue with white people acting black. But what is more ghetto to me than your indirect swipe at black people is the trash that eminates from far too many caucasoids. I mean, the world is set up for the advancement of white people and so many of them resort to trailers and the like. Sorry, but as far as Im concerned, white people should all be rich and sophisticated.

(Oakland) is run down because its just ghetto
Yikes, another BART rider who thinks they have Oakland all figured out.

even the raiders stadium is bad.. its the only colliseum i seen make news across the country for fans being stabbed..
Its not Oaklanders that do that-its icky suburbanites dressed up in drag. LOL

Now if your from the area and trying to justify or make it look better, i see where your coming from.
In other words, I have an informed opinion on the area and you dont. Exactly.

Compton is up there, Miami (downtown) maybe.. South Tucson, AZ is pretty bad.. East Los Angeles, Fresno (downtown) is pretty ghetto.. but Oakland tops all of them.
Did you know that Oakland has more Graduate Degrees Per Capita than um, San Jose?

Oakland 15.5%
San Jose 12.5%

My point is, Oakland is a city of tremendous contrasts-to simply say that "Oakland is just ghetto" really exposes huge ignorance.

(Houston, Dallas, Miami) Oakland is a money making city in a very rich region... it is run down because its just ghetto, even the raiders stadium is bad.. its the only colliseum i seen make news across the country for fans being stabbed..

Hayward, Richmond, Antioch, Freemont, Vallejo.. every city around it is ghetto... even south San Fran is ghetto.. but nothing like Oakland..

Now if your from the area and trying to justify or make it look better, i see where your coming from.. but Oakland is just bad.. its got the largest juvenile hall in the state, san quentin for a reception center and its looking at the most horrific prison ever built every day... lol..

Perhaps to some, South Tucson may seem ghetto depending on your definition. Is it because it is over 80 percent Latino? Yes, there are run-down areas and crime, but I wouldn't even classify it as a city when it has only just less than 6,000 residents.

Not saying I disagree with you, (just playing devil's advocate) but it's all relative. $200,000 in California goes a lot further in many other places--it depends on where you are.

I agree though, I don't like the use of ghetto as an adjective.

Maybe but when most people think this about Oakland doesn't it at some point become reality? perception is reality mantra.

I know how you feel, a lot of people know Milwaukee as gangsterville where people get killed every day. We used to, but now we are not even on the list of most 25 dangerous cities, Milwaukee has areas where all the homes are million dollar plus. But people will still call the east bay murder bay just people will assume Milwaukee is just another Gary. These rankings aren't science but more of a generality.

How did sideshows get brought into this? They've been happening since the 60's/70's btw and do not happen on specific holidays and I don't think you really know what a sideshow is stop watching youtube for info.

-50% of Memphis is ghetto. (Frayser, North Memphis, South Memphis, Orange Mound, Whitehaven, etc)
-25% is not ghetto but gets labled as ghetto because it's mostly black. Usually middle-class black neighborhoods. (Raleigh, Southwind, Hickory Hill but it's going downhill)
-and the last 25% is decent to very nice. There are some extremely nice areas within the city limits. (Most of East Memphis, Cordova, parts of Midtown and Downtown)
