Some of its people generally act by the rules set by the Mormons (a Christian group founded by Brigham Young).

I agree. I've visited all those places and lived in 3 of them. I have been seriously thinking about about relocating to the Denver area to get away from the ultra snobby, racist environment in the Dallas area where I currently live but now I am not so sure about that after hearing about other peoples experiences. I still think that the Denver area might not be as bad as the Dallas area.

These claims about Dallas being racist and snobby still befuddle me. It may have been true at one point in time, but I haven't encountered either since I've been here.

In fact, as a black male, I've gotten way more negative vibes in the smaller country towns/cities across the Deep South than the major cities.

I haven't been to SLC so can't comment on it.

I was in Phoenix for an extended work assignment some years ago and while I hated the climate there, I liked the layout of the city and found the residents generally pretty friendly. It's not the Midwestern friendliness where you are instantly invited over to the cookout but it's more of the 'let's hang out' type of friendly.

I had been warned about the "rude Phoenix people" prior to going to Phoenix by some co-workers but didn't encounter the widespread rudeness that I had been warned about, lol.

There are obnoxious/pretentious people everywhere but every place I've been, the majority of people are friendly & helpful.

Agree to disagree.

For example, you can't convince me that Boston isn't way more pretentious than Detroit. Or that San Francisco isn't way more pretentious than Philadelphia.

I too was warned about the "rude Phoenix people." But all those stereotypes about Phoenix are not true. In fact, when I read that Arizona people are rude, it's all referring to Tucson. What I've read, I've experienced in Tucson, but never in Phoenix. You should have been warned about the "rude Tucson people" instead. Even at my job, the rudest people I've dealt with have always been transients from Tucson. The Phoenix people are the most laid back.

I haven't been to Boston but I've been to New York and everyone I met in Brooklyn and Manhattan were as nice as anyone I've met elsewhere. I spent less time in San Francisco but I never ran into a rude person. People there were fine like every other city I've been to. Los Angeles had nice folk, same with Seattle. Been here in Denver for over 3 years, don't notice a lick of snobbery outside of normal rich people which live everywhere. I imagine the average person in Boston is pretty much the same as the average person in Detroit.

I don't think "rude" is synonymous with "snobbish" or "pretentious."

One can be well-mannered and polite while still thinking they're better than others.
