Creepy Murder in North Brunswick, NJ. A Judge's son was killed by an unidentified man dressed as a Fed Ex driver. The judges' husband is in critical condition. Case was linked to the Epstein ring. Weird. This judge just took on a case linked to Epstein.

I'm still praying for less than 700. Something in me still has hope that this post covid/floyd violence is going to die down. I guess at a certain point later this year I'm going to know whether that number isn't worth hoping for anymore.
Anyway, if Chicago does hit 800 this year or even 700, what does this mean for the immediate future? What will become the new normal in Chicago?, because from 2000 until now and excluding 2016, the average in Chicago has been about 430-490. What can we expect from now on?
Once the ball gets rolling, the trajectory won't slow until it becomes too cold to play dodge ball. (Our winter weather is sadly like a natural balancer in mitigating the carnage.) By that point, there will be a guaranteed 650 murders, putting us on par with 2017.
The early 2000s were still rough in Chicago, as homicides tallied in the 600s. High rise projects were still sort of a thing and the old chain of command was still there within the super gangs. It was around late 2003/early 2004 when the blue light cameras were implemented on light poles in the hot spots and then homicides began falling to the 400s from 2004 onward. I think also around the same time NYC and LA began implementing cameras to further decrease crime.
Charlotte now at 62 homicides on the year. Last year the city hit 107. The deadliest year in the history of the city was 1993, and the rate has decreased since then as the city gets bigger and bigger. Hoping we can stay under 100 on the year
Interesting history on lessor known RACE RIOTING in Chicago and even in other cities in what is called"The Red Summer" of 1919. Segregation and Chicago's Black neighborhoods busting at the seams with WW1 vets returning and migrations from the South. Add a Summer Heat Wave and a perfect storm as usual.
Link from July 2019 well before this Pandemic and uptick in racial violence. Started on the beaches that were filled with relief seekers from the Heat wave.
The National Guard were called in and shown in some pictures here of the era. 1000 homes in Black neighborhoods were burned and it seems they did not burn their own homes or blocks....
Irony is 101 yrs later. Switches pulled helped get us into similar situations today with racial strife and peaceful demonstrations that lead to defacing statures and all it takes is rogue demonstrator and what most plan for is not bringing down a statue. Though some apparent have. Chicago had less of the statue thing as other cities. Now it has a major attempt most did not plan on.
Causes then....
- The South Side neighborhoods to which black Chicagoans had been traditionally relegated were bursting at the seams. There was fierce competition for the existing apartments and homes, even though many of them were substandard.
- Adding to the tension was fierce competition over jobs. The black newcomers readily accepted jobs in the city's slaughterhouses and meatpacking companies because the pay was better than what they'd received in the South. That outraged the European immigrant--Irish, Italian, Czech and Polish--who'd traditionally held those jobs and who wanted to unionize the companies they'd worked for.
( I will add that the Companies wanted and aided bringing in Southern Blacks as a Union busting ploy )
- The struggle over jobs, the return of black soldiers from the war and not being treated with respect and not finding employment - those tensions were in so many places.
Add the 1000 homes burned and really no Whites arrested. It was another era but WE STILL DID NOT LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES.

Those Seattle numbers are only through June and I believe don't include one of the CHOP victims, another vehicular homicide, a gang shooting in South Seattle, and the remains of two people found in a suitcase in West Seattle (Although, does that get assigned to Seattle if they're not sure the murder took place there? - they were from a nearby suburb): https://www.king5.com/article/news/f...b-30dfa542b56d
So that should put it at 22 if those two in the suitcase count (which I'm not sure). If the 17 you listed previously for Tacoma is correct that means Tacoma is nearly tied with Seattle despite having about 1/4 of the population.
