The OP specifically mentioned metro regions and what you basically did was changed the narrative. Indianapolis and the metropolitan area population is growing whereas Pittsburgh and its metropolitan area population is declining. I realize you don't have a favorable view of Indy but that's hitting way below the belt.

Economy-Which city has the most promising and diversified economy: Charlotte

Transportation-Both via car and public: Charlotte, because of its awesome airport with tons of connections, its light rail/street car. But Pittsburgh is a close 2nd.

Walk ability: Pittsburgh

Architecture-are the homes interesting? Newer Homes: Charlotte/Nashville. Older Homes: Pittsburgh

Food: Pittsburgh

Scenery/Topography: Pittsburgh, very beautiful, green, hills, the 3-rivers downtown. Charlotte and Nashville have to be mentioned too. Very beautiful in their own rights.

Nightlife/entertainment: Charlotte/Nashville

Weather: Charlotte

Suburbs quality: Planned communities? Good schools parks pools etc: Charlotte/Nashville

Location: Charlotte
Potential growth for the future: Charlotte, with Nashville a close 2nd

The top 3 are pretty close. But, for me, the strong economies of Charlotte and Nashville set them part.....

1. Charlotte, 2. Nashville, 3. Pittsburgh, 4. Indianapolis

I would have to go with Pittsburgh, as it most closely resembles cities I love...recovering Rust Belt cities. There are those who would say Pittsburgh wasn't Rust Belt...okay, but it's still the closest of this group.

Pittsburgh seems like the only one of these cities with a soul or purpose. The others are generic corporate cities.

That same order could be the metro.
