Wha? The only category Charlotte leads is economy. Possibly suburbs, but I'm honestly not that familiar with some of the cities' suburbs.
Charlotte leads in economy, location, weather, potential growth, suburbs, and it isn't lacking in topography, public transportation, or nightlife/entertainment.
Thanks for the help, currently debating between Nashville and Charlotte.
Charlotte Pros: Fast growing city, stable economy, diverse population, progressive, excellent schools and housing options, in a better location.
Charlotte Cons: Perceived as bland in its cultural offerings, is located in a red state, held back by state politics, a second rate alternative to Atlanta.
Nashville Pros: Fast growing city, scenic, stable economy, diverse population, progressive, excellent housing options, in close proximity to the Midwest, first rate entertainment options
Nashville Cons: No light rail, high traffic around the clock, is located in a red state, held back by state politics, a second rate alternative to Atlanta.

That's pretty fair but honestly, I'm not sure if the "a second rate alternative to Atlanta" characterization holds. A lot of folks see Nashville and Charlotte as more family friendly than Atlanta with many of Atlanta's amenities (scaled down to size) but without several of Atlanta's problems--traffic being the one most often mentioned.

I meant those are the next cities some would most logically choose, if they ruled Atlanta out. I didn't mean it to be derogatory toward either city. I agree that all of the cities are family friendly.
