First of all, thrown out the stereotypes about Black folks. Black people in the US can vary greatly. Second, mention Jane & Finch, Regent Park and Rexdale, among others in the GTA, the North End in Halifax and Little Burgundy in Montreal to Canadians and see what they think about those neighborhoods. Look up Choclair, Kardinal Offishall, Sko-shun Tiez, the Rascalz, Point Blank and Saukrates, among others. You must not know that much about your country, which also had the first race riot in North America(Birchtown Nova Scotia in 1783).

Just to be fair, Michaelle Jean was the Governor General of Canada and came before Obama.

She was appointed, not elected.

And that position does not wield the power of a President or a Prime Minister.

Fot the most part the problems that black folks have in Canada are immigrant related. Just about all immigrant cultures have some problems fitting in for the first generation or so. I'm well aware of race problems of the past but thank God we are mostly past that now.

I know, but it is a relatively high ranking position and not bad for a country that is around 3% Black.

Yes; Canada has some very beautiful women. I know this one girl from Vancouver or Calgary [one of them]

She calls me creepy because I'm always complimenting her.

They are very fortunate to live in a completely diverse neighbourhood and all of the different people don't have labels attached to them.

I'm being a little sarcastic here obviously. Americans can't just up and leave the USA but I really think my point is valid. We are Canadians first and foremost. New Canadians pretty much have left their old culture behind after just one generation here in Canada. People still celebrate their origins but it's in a totally positive manner. When the Carabana celebration comes to Toronto every summer it's every one's celebration not just the west Indian population. Multi culturalism is really the answer to problems of race. When in your entire life you have been surrounded by literally scores of cultures race becomes really a non issue.
The situation in Canada and in Toronto specifically is not bad, however this description is way too milk and honey.

One only has to see what the average murder victim in Toronto looks like in order to figure out what I am talking about. And this is only one example.

This statement is very true. This is perhaps why cities with strong black footholds like Phily, Detroit, Cleveland, Baltimore, and Chicago may not have made it. GREEN$ that is, not technology, is the true marker. In DC you have PG county that has the highest per capita of Black affluence in the nation.

Also, I've heard that Oakland was a good place for Blacks. Weren't the Black Panthers started there?

This just shows how information can be so misunderstood. If your talking about the inordinate % of murder victims in TO being young black men you are drawing the wrong conclusions about that. It's like I said before an immigrant problem mostly. Some of the Jamacian immigrants bring the gang culture here to this country. It creates a lot of problems for them and everyone else. It's not that they are black at all but gang members. We have the exact same problem on the west coast with Asian gangs. It's not because they are Asians that they are getting killed it's because they are gang members.

It all depends on the green! In Oakland most neighborhoods are really diverse, but the poorest neighborhoods aren't that diverse. You run into educated, middle class + black people everywhere in Oakland, but the families move to greener pastures. One of my neighbors moved is planning to move his family as his kid enters school age and he was trying to sell me on Denver. Apparently there are quite a few middle class black areas there. Who knew.
