And the main grafitti artists I'm aware of in my area are Neckface and Banksy.

Neckface (who I had never heard of) is evidently from Stockton. But Banksy is not from the Bay Area. I don't know much about graffiti artists but I thought it was fairly common knowledge that Banksy was a Brit.
yeah, it should be...and he's not really a graffiti artist per se...at least IMO. street artist? sure...graffiti? eh...
stencils, wheat paste, stickers, etc. are a part of the culture but i feel like the spray can is the main root. until i see banksy bombs, pieces and tags, i can't really put him in that same category as your typical graffiti artist.
again, just my personal opinion. i love his work, tho.

totally agree.
What he does requires creativity but not a ton of artistic skills, since it's all stencils. It still looks great though. Stenciled murals are very cool. Overall, I like seeing huge complicated colorful pieces. Bombed out trucks or traincars, Walls along highways and tracks. I always look for them in cities and NYC has definitely impressed me the most.
****ty little tags on the otherhand, do not impress me. I don't care if it's gang-related or whatever, it just doesn't look good and isn't that hard to do. I can go take a can of black spray paint and write a word on a wall in under a minute too. But I wouldn't, because it looks like ****.
I've got a SEEN piece on canvas hanging in my livingroom. Just his quick SE bubble throw up but it's pretty cool. I'll try to remember to snap a pic tonight.
Some of that NY stuff was just tagging, which to me is awful. I can appreciate street art, if you're expressing yourself or something. Just scribbling? Boring.
