Atlanta already had its first one within the first minutes, at the Five Points MARTA Station (at Underground where the Peach Drop takes place). There was a fight and a teen was stabbed to death. So much for a murder free 2011 in ATL . Then again, as jordandubreil mentioned, NYE is an event where there is a lot of partying and heavy drinking, so such an incident is more likely to occur. Therefore, you can't really use it as a measure of how the entire year is going to be.

The 'peach drop' in underground Atlanta was promptly followed by the stabbing to death of a 14 year old around the corner @ the main transit station. It happened 15 minutes into the new year!
pretty typical for Atlanta!

San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose all had their first homicide of the year today:

San Francisco:

DC had a lot of shootings over the weekend, so far police and the news aren't reporting much but the streets know whats up.

Baltimore is at 1... so far.

Baltimore City police said two men got into an argument in the 1500 block of Hazel Street around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. One man was cut while the other was stabbed, according to police.

Both victims were taken to local hospitals.

An unidentified man, 21, died from his injuries.

Police have not released a motive for the slaying
