I have never been to Boston but have lived in LA the last 28 years. For the categories mentioned, this is actually a tough choice. Both cities have their pros and cons. LA is more expensive than Boston I would guess. Boston's public transportation is better. LA is too spread out and if you don't have a car here, you are in real trouble. But overall tough call.

Actually, in my experience they are pretty equal in COL. That is just my experience though, I don't know about actual figures.

How about higher education?

Boston: Harvard, MIT, Northeastern, Boston College, Boston University, Tufts, UMass Boston

LA: USC, UCLA, Cal Tech, CSU Northridge, CSU LA, Loyola Marymount, CSU Dominguez Hills

I'm sure a missed a few in there for both cities (and included the very close in suburbs, ie Pasadena, Cambridge), but those are the major ones.

I'd have to give this one to Boston. LA can compete with most cities when it comes to higher education but Boston is a tough one.

what else...LA has best looking girls in the nation (subjective, i know), and most importantly to me, far superior year-round weather - almost always sunny, dry, and mild or warm with low humidity. even better, the region is mostly devoid of mosquitoes, gnats, and other annoying bugs that thrive in humid climates such as the east coast.

.
Just to let you KNow California has higher obeseity (and Overwieght) rates than Massachusetts, so attractiveness is off, and the warm weather does not mean they take advantage of the enviorment.

Yeah but they are both around the lowest in the country. The weather also has something to do with it, not that it makes the girls less attractive but they are bundled up for half the year I personally think there are more attractive women here, and my wife is more self conscious here.

NO city in the US Beats Boston in Higher education, but compared to LA its one of the few Catagories Boston wins in, as well as History, and Fine arts.
Food is basicly a draw, LA winning in Asain and Mid east food, Boston in European and Latin American Food (outside Mexico/Guatamala)

Do you mean Brazilian? It's one of the injustices I inflicted upon myself by not going to get some Allston Brazilian food. Wish I could compare cause I have been to a Brazilian place here in LA a couple of times.

The Mexican food situation in Boston is so bad that I'm not sure I can agree with Latin American food just because Mexican is so atrocious there. I'm sure I missed a hole in the wall that is good but every single place I tried was a real let down. And being from CA, trust me I tried A LOT. <- rant over.

Obviously Boston kills LA in Italian, probably wins in fine dining (not sure). Boston seemed like it had better Indian. Seafood would be an interesting debate, it would really depend on what kind of seafood you are looking for, as both have excellent sea food.

How do you feel the Chinese food (authentic not polynesian) compares?
