2013 homicides were way up from 2012. and so far in 2014 there have been at least 4.

Hmmm. Apparently you also have a chair with arms at home eh?

Most murders are committed by and against people that know one another. Granted, some people will be in the wrong place at the wrong time such as a robbery that goes really bad, but in most cases it is due to a drug deal that got fouled up, domestic violence in families or among friends that are the cause of these murders.

Cincinnati still has a relatively low murder rate when compared to most cities over 100,000 people. The last time I checked it was in the middle of the pack albeit that was a few years back.

The following compares crime in many major American cities. Cincy is still in the middle of the pack when it comes to the murder rate per capita. It has a long way to go before it becomes St. Louis.

OP ... I am somewhat in wonderment as to just what aggressive addressing of the crime problem is. Do you have specific recommendations? I am sure the law enforcement officials will welcome any well thought out positions.

But if by aggressive you mean resorting back to the race related tactics of a few decades ago, no that is not the answer.

Does the Cincinnati Police Department still do the "work slowdown"?

I remember the guys over at the FOP discouraging police officers from making too many stops and busting too many drug dealers in any one day, since it would encourage more interaction between themselves and criminals and open police officers to things going wrong.

And if you're going to go down the race related tactics rabbit hole... remember Timothy Thomas had fourteen outstanding arrest warrants at the time he was shot by Steven Roach.

I do not have the stamina to investigate every lead. Please advise us how many of those outstanding fourteen arrest warrants were for felonies.

Link? And how about other crimes? People focus almost exclusively on murder rates, but that effects far fewer people overall than other types of violent crime.

And 2012 was much lower than 2010 if I recall correctly. If we go a week with out a murder does that mean any thing? What about 3 in a night? It's important to look at 10, 20 years spans and see where the trend is going and what can be drawn from this info.

Yep. Crime rates are not linear. There are ups and downs, so you have to look at the larger trends. Although it may not fit everyone's narrative, the reality is that Cincinnati's crime is following the general downward trend seen nationally.
