So are you saying they cannot do their business due to conditions imposed over abusive practices a decade ago, or what? You say imposed, but I believe the so-called Collaborative Agreement also had to be ratified by the collective police unions. Are you saying they were coerced into that?

It is time these boiled-over past whatevers be set aside and people begin to look at what is the future?
Constantly looking at the past is going to get nowhere.

  1. Change the model of the educational system from a classroom type model to a model where each student makes progress at their own rate as if to really master the subject at hand.
  2. Legalize drugs as if to take away a major source of revenue and motivation for forming and joining criminal gangs.
  3. Increase vocational training in schools especially in programs relating the construction trades so you can employ the youth in restoring and rehabilitating the housing in the Cincinnati.
  4. With the youth having employable skills and gainfully employed the crime rate drops dramatically.
  5. With the housing restored and crime rate down the city becomes a more attractive place to live.

This thread is almost seven years old. How is the crime rate now? You don't hear very much about Cincinnati's violent crime rates in national media today, so perhaps it's better now than it was in 2007.

Not really. It is just not talked about as much. Some areas of violent crime are down. But the wanton shooting and killing of individuals in certain areas of the city haven't changed much. What has seemed to change is that if the level stays at a certain point the prevailing attitude seems to be ho-hum that is the way it is. Long as it is confined to certain drug-related crime activitities the majority of people feel they are not part of, why get excited, you are not likely to change it much.

It has improved, following the general national trend.

I don't have 2013 yet, but in 2012, there were 2,887 instances of violent crime. This was a 19.7% drop from 2007. It was also the 3rd lowest total since 1985. There were 18,173 instances of property crime, an 11.8% drop since 2007 and the #1 lowest total since 1985.

Crime changes 2007-2012
Murder: -25.8%
Rape: -40.9%
Robbery: -12.1%
Assault: -25.9%
Burglary: -11.7%
Larceny: -6.4%
Motor Vehicle Theft: -45.2%

Actually, every type of crime is down in Cincinnati, since 2007 and generally in the last 30 years.

Tell that to those who seem to get gunned down on the streets somewhere in Cincinnati weekly. It may be reducing, which is definitely good. But if anyone is satisfied with the numbers they and I do not see eye-to-eye.

You do realize that crime going down doesn't actually mean zero crime, right? There will always be some level of crime, so if your goal is to have no crime, you're going to need a population of zero to gain it. And someone wasn't gunned down weekly in 2012. There were 46 murders that year in 52 weeks.

@KJ, But you can say the same thing to people in New York City as well. Our violent crime rates have dropped so much since the bad old days of the 1970s, 80s and early 90s, yet someone in the City gets gunned down weekly here as well. No, it's never a good thing when someone is murdered. And there is still work to do in order to get crime rates as close to zero as possible, a very tall order if there is one. But let's be honest, if Cincinnati's murder and assault rates have gone down by almost 26% and its rape rate has gone down by nearly 41% from 2007 to 2012, then the City and the Cincinnati P.D. must be doing something right. Just have to keep the momentum going and if it looks like violent crime is starting to tick back up, be aware and be on it right away.
