Hi guys. I know there are a lot of threads on the south loop, but I need some advice on a specific address - 1307 S. Wabash. Is it safe? Would you be ok talking your dog out at night? We are looking to rent a place in this bulding and want a little advice first. Thanks!

Do not talk to "homeless" people.

It's OK, there are a few bars and restuarants around there and people on the street but there are a few bums and shady looking characters too. I think you're better off a block or two east on Michigan or Indiana; the coppers shag the bums and riff raff over there right now what with the mayor at 15th and Indiana and the police chief at 14th and Michigan. I see people walking their dogs in Webster Park at 14th and Indiana at all hours; I just looked down and there are a couple of people walking their dogs in the park right now.

Just a block or two this way or that can give a different perception down here. Not that any of it seems seriously shady mind you until you get down around 22nd and State.

Thanks for the input. I have been down there, but never at night. If you have any other comments about the area, please send them my way. Thanks again!

What about 235 W. Van Buren? Would any of you consider living there? We are thinking about renting a place, but it seems so industrial; not neighborhoody at all. Safety? Convenient? Too businessy? Would you have a family there? Thanks!

It's not really industrial, but it is heavily commercial. It is most definitely not "neighborhoody." I would raise a family in the City, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't raise a family in 235 W Van Buren despite its reasonable costs.

If you want "neighborhoody" in the South Loop, stay east of the train tracks that are between Clark and Wells.
