So I surmised. Do you want to correct the Wikipedia article?

I know, but my hypothetical kids are very smart and would have no trouble getting in.

Regarding Sutherland, I asked a few people yesterday whose kids go there (and whose opinions I trust). They say that it has gotten very good but that they didn't get serious about attendance boundaries until a few years ago (when it started to become very popular locally). THus, in the older grades there are still some ruffians around who were grandfathered in. Every year it gets better.

The area is top notch -- in the middle of central beverly. It's quite pretty with homes in the 400K to 1M range around those blocks.

Clissold seems to be considered as good or better.

As I said, avoid Barnard. Morgan Park High school is trying hard to integrate (ie get more white people -- there are currently about 200). It's a tough sell. I'm sure the school is ok by some metric, but I say it sucks.

Kellog is in a beautiful neighborhood (heart of North Beverly) and it's seem to have a good reputation but does not seem to be the top choice of people that live there. North Beverly is probably the most expensive area of Beverly and many people have money to send their kids to places like Lab and other expensive schools on the north side.

Thanks so much for the schools information! Its not perfect but there is some hope, so it is worth looking into further. ajolotl - thanks for asking your friends about the schools! That is a big help. I'm thinking we might swing private HS, but if we had to do private the whole way through we could not do it.

This area has been held together by the Catholic schools. Probably most kids go to Brother Rice and Mother McCauley for high school after attending Sutherland, Clissold, or St. Barnabas (the top Catholic K-8). Lots also go to Mt. Carmel in Woodlawn and St. Ingacious. Morgan Park Academy (not high school) and Lab are pretty common for the people who have a little extra money.

There is a huge push to fix the public high school problem. It will probably take 5-10 years, though, if things ever begin to change. The city seems to spend more resources on the deeplytroubled schools, and morgan park is very good relatively speaking.
