WTF?

This is supposed to be freakin Beverly which is looked at as the ideal neighborhood on the southside.

Are we going to see more incidents like this? Is Beverly going to fall into the problems of the neighborhoods around it?

The incident I am referencing is the shooting death of Charles White, black male, age 26 while he and a friend were sitting in his car this morning. The paddenger was also shot but is hospitalized.

I expect this kind of crap in Humboldt Park and Logan Square to a lesser degree but was shocked to hear this happened in Beverly. Is this a sign of things to come?

The location of the shooting is spitting distance to Washington Heights. In terms of spillover crime, this isn't too different than Austin/Oak Park and the "dreaded east of Ridgeland" area.

Most Beverly residents consider Beverly to end east at Prospect. Still, it is not good news for a community that works tirelessly to promote and protect the area, especially on the weekend of the Beverly Cycling Classic. There will be a lot of concern and debate in the area today.

It will pass over just like any other crime that happens in the surrounding neighborhoods or on the outskirts of Beverly. Contrary to what some seem to want to happen, Beverly will not change.

Why would people want Beverly to change?

And, do we know if these 2 kids were shady characters?

As we all know - crimes happen everywhere, just with more or less frequency in different areas. Its interesting that this morning's news made sure to state that the incident was not believed to be gang related - as if to shelter the neighborhood's reputation.

Unfortunately, I do think Beverly could have some additional spillover crime this summer, since violence is seemingly up so much.

I just read the blurb on the google maps south side shooting page. "A dispute earlier in the week probably sparked the shooting."

I don't know about you, but the people I tend to disagree with don't come back to voice their opinion with a handgun.

I don't know. It seems as if there is a disturbing glee in the tone of the original post.

Maybe he likes drama?

When I lived in Aurora, we had shootings with a good frequency too. I never feared for anything, because I knew it was mostly gang on gang, or drug related.

Like I said, for all we know, these two kids could have been shady characters who pissed off a drug dealer or something. It isn't that hard for any shady Washington Heights folks to walk across 4 lanes to shoot somebody.

And anyways, BAPA works very hard to promote Beverly and keep it as a great place to live. Like ajolotl says, there will be some debate about it, and I think things will definitely be looked into.
