A few days ago, I posted that I noticed a drastic increase in the number of shattered car windows by the Lincoln Park Zoo. As luck would have it, my car was broken into last night and the thieves stole my car stereo by smashing through the passenger side front window.

I've only been living in Chicago (and Lincoln Park) for 3 months. What's the deal with these kind of crimes? Now, I'm reluctant to even buy another car radio and I'm definitely going to move when my lease is up.

where would you move to? Dont want to sound insensitive, but if your car is parked on the street all the time, things like that will happen. I would suggest getting a secured garage parking spot. You can get one for under 200 a month. Look into 2625 N Clark, secured heated parking spot with video surveillence for $175 a month, a pretty good deal, IMO

Street parking in the city sucks, but most have no other option available.
I'm sorry.

I can sympathize. A few years ago I made the mistake of buying a nice car with some cool stuff inside. It was broken into five times in the first year -- the final time they finally managed to make off with dvd player and navigation system. Electrical system never really worked right after that. My solution -- I sold the car and now drive a 15-year old wreck that's is probably isn't too attractive to the criminal element (though they did take my hubcaps in Hyde Park).

I've about lost track of how many times my various cars have been vandalized. Moving is not going to solve your problem. Either getting rid of your car or parking it in a enclosed area are your only realistic alternatives. Honestly, it's cheaper to have your radio stolen every once in a while then to pay for enclosed parking.

My daughter lives in CA and has the strangest stereo I have ever seen. When she parks she takes the 'face' of the rradio with her. The part of the radio that is wiired in place will NOT work without the face registered to her under any circumstances. She has not lost a radio yet.

Moving will solve the problem you just have to move far away maybe even another State or smaller city. This is the price you pay when you live in a big city. More people means more crime.Crime rates are low is very small cities because there are less people living there.

Um, crime rate = number of crimes divided by number of people. Given that, I'm not sure what you're saying below.

That's a practically universal feature on aftermarket radios these days. I don't know why it's not more common on factory radios.
