This board has been full of threads and posts talking about everyone being robbed or having property stolen from them, and even weirder is it is all concentrated in Lincoln Park... a really nice neighborhood. Every single one of these posts. Even me, some guy tricked me today and stole my U-Pass. Yeah this thread doesn't really have a point to it, but just something I think that's interesting to point out.

What, you think thieves are going to target poor neighborhoods?

Thieves go where there's stuff worth taking. What's the mystery here?

I originally thought Lincoln Park was pretty safe, at lease relativity. Now, not so much

Default humboldt park vs lincoln park

I know some yuppies will be offended but I would argue your stuff is more likely to be stolen out of your car in Lincoln Park or that type of area than Humboldt Park, at least the part where I live north of grand (non blacks don't go south of grand generally).

For two years I had my laptop in a black bag in the black leather back seat of my car (it kinda blended) and never had a problem. I park at Ballys in Portage Park and some jerk breaks into my car and steals it. Now the laptop is in my trunk. Portage Park is arguably a better area than Humboldt Park.

In Humboldt Park many do not have cars and are too poor to know what IPASS is. People go to neighborhoods where people have stuff. I am relatively unusual in Humboldt Park to be relatively affluent. Still, I lock my car and doors and have a security alarm just in case.

In Lincoln Park I was at Ballys at Webster Place. I have never seen so many missing weights (presumably broken or stolen). Kinda sad that guys are going in there and walking off with 35 and 45 lb dumbells in their bags. I have heard horror stories of rolexes being stolen out of locked lockers which is why I always bring my valuables with me on the workout floor when I am at the gym. I doubt many are sifting thru lockers in melrose park ballys looking for rolexes.

Lincoln Park is a pretty safe area, for people, not so much for cars (or the items located in them) though.

The average Humboldt Park resident (Humboldt1 excepted, of course) is less likely to be on city-data compared to the average Lincoln Park resident. There's plenty of crime in the poorer neighborhoods of Chicago, but most of it isn't reported first hand on city-data.
