I wouldnt be as mad about my stereo being stolen its just such a pain in the ass to take care of everything. You obviously need to get a new window and all that stuff. I had it happen to me when i live in the suburbs and it does suck

I had my radio stolen twice, and then I finally got one of those 'removable face radios' and the one night I forget to bring the face in, it got stolen too. Unfortunately, keeping a radio can be a bit of a chore.

I don't have a car anymore, and repeated theft of my radio was part of my decision not to replace it when it was totaled in a hit and run (which is another story).

I've never lived in a large city like Chicago before so I didn't realize that this kind of crime is pretty common. As for the detachable faceplate, wouldn't the thieves just steal the part that's in your car and pair it up with their own faceplate from the same model of radio?

This is assuming they needed the other half. I assumed most radio thieves got into it for resale purposes, or finding crack money.

Yes many of these thieves are drug addicts. They pawn the wares or sell them on the black market to get their high.

I have seen these types of car radios for at least 15 years.

Be happy THIS didn't happen (see below). This car, which belonged to a friend of mine, was stolen off of Wellington in West Lakeview about four years ago. It was found abandoned on the South Side in this condition.

If you park your car on the street in Chicago, don't buy a nice stereo. You're just asking for it, really. I know that's "blaming the victim", but I would't leave anything valuable unattended in Chicago--or any other large city for that matter.

I remember you posting this pic before, and I cringe every time I see it. Luckily, I just sold my Integra GS-R, so when we move in the spring, I'll be driving a Subaru Impreza, which thieves hopefully pass over.
