Does anyone have any thoughts on my suggestion above to change the State Street store (the one true "Marshall Field's) back to Marshall Field's, mix it with Macy's, Bloomingdale's, former Marshall Field's departments, and private venders, promote it as the recincarnation of Chicago landmark and shopping destination while keeping the other Macy's stores as Macy's (with Water Tower Place as the new Chicago flagship)

??????????????

Would be interested in hearing from you since I do think such an idea would be win/win for both Macy's and the city.

EDSG: It's good to see you here.

Regarding your idea about running State Street as Marshall Field's using the best resources of both Macy's and Bloomingdale's, there actually is a lot of support behind it, although not from Terry Lundgren, as far as I can tell.

FieldsFansChicago.org is promoting this idea via the leaflets they are passing out this holiday season: See http://www.fieldsfanschicago.org/ffc12022010leaflet.pdf

Also: There's a recent BBC story on the most recent rally for Field's:

As for those comparing Field's to Wieboldt's and Goldblatts or even Carson's, consider that with Marshall Field's, Chicago would be a radically different city. Virtually no other big city in the world can say that it was shaped significantly by its department store, except Chicago and Marshall Field's. If it weren't for Field's, we wouldn't have the Merchandise Mart, the Shedd Aquarium, the Art Institute, the University of Chicago, State Street and North Michigan Avenue as bustling thoroughfares; Old Orchard, Oak Brook Centre, Woodfield, Marshall Field apartments, Chicago's culinary culture, the Century of Progress and the World's Fair and much, much more. Me and my family never worked for Field's--we worked for Sears, Wards and Wieboldt's. But it was Marshall Field's that was, until 2005, Chicago's number three tourist destination.

ESSG, please contact me, I want to talk with you some more.

Best wishes to all.
