Plaza 440
The Bernadin

We are looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment preferably in the Gold Coast or Lincoln Park area, within 5 blocks of the El, under $2300. per month, accepts cats, and would like to have mature, professional neighbors.

I wouldn't call Plaza 440, the Bernadin, or 420 East Ohio "Gold Coast". 1320 Lasalle is technically in the Gold Coast but Lasalle is too busy to have much neighborhood ambiance. If you are looking to really live in the Gold Coast 65 East Scott is the only one to consider. The Gold Coast is a wonderful, friendly neighborhood. I loved living there.

None of these apartments are in Lincoln Park.

The best way to find an apartment in the Gold Coast is to just walk the streets(IMO - LSD to Dearborn, from North Ave to Oak Street, but narrowing at Division to East of State). Many buildings do not advertize and if you look around you might find a cute coachhouse apt. The rental sheets will be posted by the front door of teh smaller buildings, and the larger buildings will have signs with the management companys' info.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help, we will be there for 3 weeks in June to look for an apartment, and walking the area sounds like a great way to also learn our way around. We will be stay at the Grand Plaza, but think that will be too far to walk to the Gold Coast?

Thanks again great information!!

In your price range, you could rent a condo and don't have to limit yourself to rental buildings. Sometimes a better deal for a nicer place...check the Trib or call a r.e. agent if you're interested in doing that. Sometimes a realtor can talk a condo owner who wants to sell, into renting in this market. More $$ negotiating room with an individual condo landlord than in an all rental building.

I don't know the boundaries for Gold Coast, would 1 W Superior be in the Gold Coast?

My previous post gave the boundries for what the locals would consider the "Gold Coast". Outside of what I listed you wouldn't have the substance of the neighborhood.
