The rental sheets will be posted by the front door of teh smaller buildings, and the larger buildings will have signs with the management companys' info.

Good luck!
You are totally right about the boundaries.

No locals would consider them "gold coast".

The map was great, but it didn't give street names, are the boundaries of the map the same as Sailaway responded (IMO - LSD to Dearborn, from North Ave to Oak Street, but narrowing at Division to East of State).

One more thought. When you walk around the neighborhood you'll see the difference between the real "Gold Coast" and the other "Near North" buildings. "Near North" isn't bad, its just not the same thing.

I'm not from Chicago, nor have I ever been, but I'm curious to know what the real difference is? What does Near North lack?

The "Gold Coast" according to the City Map is:

The first "chunk" is North Ave on the North, L.S.D. on the East, LaSalle on the West, and Division Ave on the South.

The second "chunk" is Division Ave on the North,L.S.D. on the East, State on the West, and Chicago Ave on the South.

The third "chunk" is Chicago Ave on the North, L.S.D. on the East, Michigan on the West and Grand on the South.

Of course if you are ON Michigan Ave between (inner) East L.S.D and north of the River you are on the Mag Mile.:-)

Streeterville is not an official neighborhood. It is more of a sub-neighborhood. There is way too much backround info for me to mention on that area right now. lol
Many people use the term however. It encompasses most of the chunk 2 and 3 I mentioned.

Chunk 1 is what represents the Gold Coast the best.

The Gold Coast is a particularly charming neighborhood, full of brownstones, beautiful gardens (open once a year in July for the Garden Walk), sidewalk cafes and small shops. It is bordered by the park to the north and the lake to the east, significantly cutting down on traffic.

I also find Streeterville charming, but in a more urban way. Streeterville used to be very like the Gold Coast, but it didn't have the same restrictions on development and has lost many of the low rise buildings. Also NWM keeps expanding, and there are far more tourists wandering around because of Water Tower Place.
