for $1400 a month or under?

I am looking for a full one bedroom, not a JR or studio. I have found a ton of places on hotpads.com but I am wondering how reputable the listings and prices are. I would prefer a place with bills paid so I could waste more money at the bars but I wouldn't limit myself to ABP.

Yes. It is possible. Some of the most chic highrise buildings will be out of reach, however, you will still have many other options.

Awesome. Thank you.

I relocated here from Dallas in July to move in with my girlfriend who had moved here several years ago for school. We currently live in a jr 1 bedroom in Lakeview, and while we love the area, we would like something bigger and closer to downtown. Luckily, I somehow scored a job paying me about $25K more a year so my budget has increased significantly than what I had expected to be able to pay.

Where would be the best places to look for legitimate apartment? Craigslist seems to be a giant ad for apartment locators who like to list their best properties at the price of their crappier places. Anyone used Hotpads.com or is it kind of the same thing as craigslist?

Everyone I know in Chicago has always found their place off Craigslist or just walking around the neighborhood.

It might be also worthwhile to check the MLS for condos for rent in the area.

Cool, I guess the craigslist thing was more-so in Dallas where it is giant suburban style complexes. Anyways, thanks for everyones help!

^I helped a friend find a place down in Dallas and definitely found that to be true as well. Did the same thing for her when she moved to Houston and discovered that pretty much all the landlords in places like Montrose put their listings on the MLS. I think every city is different!

If you value your time, energy and sanity, just use one of the many apartment finding agencies. I was able to look at 20 places a day because they had all the keys and knew the best way of getting from place to place. On my own it would've taken me more than a month to achieve what was done in just a few days. This service doesn't cost you anything either.
