Well, there is a good chance homicides will pass traffic fatalities this year in Chicago. The reason the accidents don't make the news as much is because they are just that, accidents. Not violent, disgusting acts such as a murder.

As aggressively as some people drive, the only "accident" is that their (or their victims') luck has run out. Of course, I've seen much more evil drivers in other cities. I appreciate the slow pace of Chicago traffic and the "Midwestern courtesy" that's displayed, however minimal it may be compared to the hinterlands. As a frequent pedestrian I'm glad to finally live somewhere where most drivers are not trying to run me down.

if you think lincoln park is safe at night, then you have much in common with posters that assert that beale st memphis is a fun place late at night.

So you're a Chicago native. That's cool. When's the last time you visited Chicago? When's the last time you went to Lincoln Park? Places change, some for worse, some for better.

In comparison to some other cities, though certainly not the Midwest outside of Chicago. I would agree with this. I've visited cities all along the Eastern seaboard from Boston to Miami. Chicago feels like Mayberry in comparison.

My grandfather was from NYC, and moved to Chicago as an adult, the way he talked about Chicago like this. He always commented on how friendly everyone was and how neatly they parked. I travel to the east coast fairly frequently, and I feel like when I come home, I can 'take it down a notch' from when I visit Boston and NYC, and I like it that way.

I'm an East Coaster and I can personally tell you that Chicago is the biggest city with the friendliest residents lol. Like it's this huge urban megalopolis but everyone seems to respect eachother, good luck finding that here on the East Coast. Like someone else said from Boston to Miami it seems like everyone is always in a hurry. Maybe parts of the south are an exception but for the most part the East Coast is like a rat race, especially NY. But I was born and raised around it so it's really not a big deal to me. Actually slower-paced lifestyle feels weird to me, like the whole Southern California vibe.
