So then, if we are just going by downtowns, culture, and nightlife--New York and L.A. surely have Chicago beat. New York is TRUELY a city that does not sleep. Chicago can get boring after midnight. California may be too flakey for midwesterners tastes, but the nice weather alone puts L.A. ,or even San Francisco, above Chicago. Chicago does have a few very upscale suburbs, like Lake Forest. But within 3 minutes you are back in slumville suburbs like North Chicago. There just isn't an element of cool about Chicago. Chicago seems like they are always trying too hard to be cool, but in the end just end up pissing everyone off.
100% agree on this

^^ I am a Milwaukeean. A constant visitor and explorer to Chicago for the last 20 + years.

I must disagree with the recent post about Chicago being not so good...

Obviously! Or why else would I return for 20 + years?!?

As a Milwaukee appreciator, (although I don’t think I’d want to live in Milwaukee either. But I’d rather raise kids in Milwaukee than a number of places)

Living in Chicago and visiting routinely are different things. It’s a great place to fill in the gaps of what Milwaukee has to offer.

But I feel Milwaukee in some ways Beats out Chicago on a lot of day to day activities (low stress. Access to nature. Topography etc)

MidwestCoast714, good afternoon.

Well, I do appreciate the support for Milwaukee.

I've been to Chicago enough that Chicagoans think I'm one of them!

I love the energy, the diversity, and the history that Milwaukee juuuuuuuuust doesn't have the same level.

Chicago has ugly parts but to describe the city as ugly would be wrong imo.

95%?
You really think so?
No way. Your crime is terrible. Your weather stinks. Pollution. Taxes. Illinois is just awful.

Lived in the city 13 years, Northside neighborhoods. Very attractive building stock. Lots of trees along many streets. Most of my time spent in Andersonville. Those comments just above that point-blank consider almost all of Chicago to be ugly and trashy are very much off base and likely just intentional flame bait.

sf_arkitect, these are beautiful pictures.

Makes me wish I was in the moment.

Thank you for sharing (both the pictures, AS WELL AS the positivity, here!).
