Any city with industry is going to have its ugly side. Industrial areas are supposed to be purely functional, not aestetically pleasing.

Los Angeles is pretty ugly, except for the landscaping and surrounding hills. It doesn't really function as a city, however. And the architecture can be good on the single-house level, but the vast majority of buildings are terrible.

I think that many of Chicago's commercial and residential areas are bleak and without character. These are not areas that a tourist would visit. I'm talking about neighborhoods like Avondale, Back of Yards, etc. Even Jefferson Park has streets that just scream bleakness (I'm not talking about the Bungalows here--because I love those).

I commend Daley for his efforts in streetscaping and tree-planting. It's a step in the right direction.

Seriously! You can spot this guy a mile away. It's always a different name, but the posts have the same language and tone. What a strange dude.

Its the tell-tale "DuPage people will call the cops on you for riding a bicycle" line that gives him away.

But dont feel bad, at least you guys dont have to live out here in the burbs with this guy.
