This really belongs over on LTH, where the debate has been going on for years .. But KFC would still need to whip up on Harolds to get a better foothold ..
Yeah Harold's in Hyde Park is the best followed by the on 69th and Ashland....

top 'hood' chicken joints;
Harold's
JJ's
Uncle Remus
Coleman's
Shark's
Whale's

Yes, the big problem with Harold's is consistency! Some are great, but some are terrible.

ROTFL at the Browns - "White Peoples' Chicken". I remember being teased in school because I mentioned to a classmate that I liked Brown's Chicken.

My favorite Harold's is on 79th right off of Cottage. The 71st store is a good one, though.

They also have great corn and mashed potaotes. As Mexicans continue to spread out to all areas of Chicago and the suburbs, expect Church's to follow and get a lot more exposure. They are much better that 7 herbs and spices worth of mush that KFC serves.
One would think that El Pollo Loco would be their chain of choice, especially since it originated in Mexico...

We should make a thread about all the White Castles and Arbys that have disappeared in the city and Chicago area. There are a few left; but there used to be far more.

I think crbcrbrgv was talking about Church's being the most popular fried chicken franchise among hispanics. El Pollo Loco serves grilled chicken, not fried chicken.

That being said, I'm not so sure about its popularity. There used to be a Church's @ 54th/Cermak (right in Cicero) that closed a few months ago. Interestingly enough the Popeye's @ Cicero/Cermak is still open.

Default Popeye's

I can care less if every KFC in the country closes because Popey's is my favorite and much better than KFC imo. I also like the biscuits and seasoned fries at Popeye's a lot better.
