I rent in the city and my rental cars have always had stickers on them.

Either way - it's not your problem, it's the rental company's.

Not all tickets. The city sticker law is a licensing regulation. If you get a parking ticket on that rental watch out. They have a habit of putting the fine on your credit card. By 'they' I mean the rental car company.

It is another way of screwing people out of money. Its really just a hidden way of taxing people...

There's nothing hidden about it. It's a straight-forward tax and the city freely admits as much. They even call it the "wheel tax" in the municipal code.

I meant its hidden to most people, because they do not know that.

I really don't know how you could consider a tax to be "hidden" when the government basically says "fork over $75 to $90 cash every year for every vehicle you own." A tax really doesn't get much more transparent than that.

Well Neonwattagelimit did not know. How many transplants move here every year? I bet they do not know.

There's a difference between unfamiliarity to newcomers and it being a "hidden" tax. These are two separate issues. A tax that everyone who lives here knows about and anyone moving here can find out about through due diligence because it's openly publicized (see the "moving to Chicago" page on the city website) is not a "hidden" tax. It's out in the open for everyone to see. That's the exact opposite of "hidden."
