Could be a long summer in Uptown this year.
Man...it's starting early. Just wait until the weather improves and people are outside at all hours. That's when the real trouble will start.

More hanky panky on that pesky 800 block of Cuyler. Such a strange block. It will be very quiet for a couple of years with no one even paying attention to it, and then boom, a weird shooting. It seems like there are just shootings there every couple of years or so.

A million years ago when I was a dog walker I had three clients in that sorta-trapezoid formed by Halsted, Sheridan, Irving Park and Belle Plaine. That little area was strange back then too. Beautifully restored turn-of-the-century buildings with fabulously rehabbed units side-by-side with seemingly tenement buildings packed with immigrants and shouting matches pouring from the open windows, and just about everything in between. Oh, and a drug halfway house on Sheridan just to add a bit more flavor to the place.

Uptown still waiting for its first murder of 2014 after only 1 in 2013. Definitely pulling ahead of RP in what was once a close race for most violent northside neighbhorhood. Sizeable improvements across the board for the second year in a row.

I know for a fact the numbers are not true. It is so wrong the way they are playing with the numbers.

There's certainly been no shortage of shootings in Uptown so far this year. If there hasn't been a murder yet then the only reason is because the thugs doing the shooting don't know how to aim for center mass.

Also keep in mind that the city of Chicago doesn't count it as a homicide if it was deemed to be self defense. Red Eye does log them, which is why the numbers between the two are sometimes off.

Not personally. I have a few friends who live in uptown and they know of people who know people.

Even with self defense classification instead of homicide with the city of Chicago I don't think the stats are right.

I can remember a few months before I left Chicago the news reported a murder happened on 67th when it actually happened on sunny side. There is some messy stuff with the numbers.
