Even if it were true, I'd love for Uptown to be improved. If yuppies can do it, more power to them. Uptown has some very beautiful architecture and homes.

I don't believe that people should get away with taking that away by allowing gangs, drug dealing and other things go on in the open. It's not fair.
You sound like me! Thats exactly what I want in a neighborhood.

As if on cue...

1 wounded in Uptown shooting on North Side - chicagotribune.com

But remember, if you live in Uptown and you're tired of this sh*t, you're a yuppie hell-bent on ethnic cleansing.

That's right around the Wilson stop. Parking lot - trying to think of what one that would be. I wonder if the new Wilson stop, when completed, will have any impact on the area. Also, I wonder if the construction of it will have negative or positive impact on it.

I agree too - it's always funny how people think anybody who wants to clean up an area is automatically a yuppie.

I presume you mean Truman . . .

Hard to think of any other parking lot on the 1100 block of Wilson. Does Truman even have a "lot" or is it a garage?

Whoops, yeah Truman. That's what I thought - it's a garage, not a parking lot, and it's not even on Wilson to my knowledge. The only parking lots I can think of are east of the Wilson stop really or the little strip mall on the corner of Magnolia (which is not the 1100 block). I don't even think you can get to that parking garage directly from Wilson anyway can you? You have to go down Racine

The Tribune got it wrong - it's the 1000 block, not 1100 block. That is east of the stop, not west. Parking lot makes more sense now - around the Dunkin Donuts

It's going to take some pretty serious "Yuppie" investment to save the Uptown Theater. It will just take such a huge sum of money, and no one wants to bite with $50-70 million on a neighborhood with such a mixed reputation. To be viable as a venue, it would have to attract suburbanites and tourists in numbers not even seen in Old Town or Lincoln Park venues, and they would have to "feel safe" driving in and parking in the neighborhood to make it work.

Uptown Theater, West Chicago school on latest endangered list - chicagotribune.com

This theater is LARGER than the Chicago Theater downtown, and some argue a better example of a B&K movie palace. It would be a tremendous shame to lose it, but I really fear that there is no other fate for the place.
