The source is the UN, so it's about as accurate as you're going to find, but as raw data it's rather useless, due to a couple of things that have been mentioned already: 1) It's just giving raw numbers rather than actual crime rate, and 2) Crimes are defined and reported differently in different countries. The link that was posted earlier in the thread gives actual crime rates and breaks it down by type of crime, which is a little more useful.

Did you look at the link? Nobody is giving you one because there are SEVERAL listed at that link. Do you want people to just type the names of the countries from the report to here? We're assuming you can read yourself.

True, but nobody said murder rate. We're discussing crime rate. In every other category of crime listed, there are "first world" (whatever that means in 2013) countries with higher rates than the U.S.

I said as much in the sentence that you deleted out of my quote.

Ok, great. You got me. My post implied that I agreed with him when, in reality, I said that I simply did not know.

Did YOU look at the link? The link does not show any first world counties with an overall crime rate higher than the US. So what are you talking about?

The link DOES show the US very high up on the list on all counts.. But again, there is no data in the link about crime rate overall.

Nobody is giving me one because they don't have one.. But fine, okay. Let's pretend like I refuse to click the link. Without the link, here on this forum, can someone please name ONE first world country with a higher crime rate than the U.S?

Sigh...I should really give up on you, as everyone else appears to have wisely done, but I refuse to believe you are truly too dense to get this, especially when you're staring right at it, so I will attempt once again.

First of all, there is no list of "overall crime rate" (whatever the hell that would even mean on a global scale) at that link. There are, however, numerous "first world" countries (again, whatever the hell THAT even means in 2013..I'm assuming you mean countries with large economies) above the U.S. on the list in EVERY SINGLE CATEGORY listed. Belgium, Australia, England, Canada, Germany, Mexico, France, and on...and on....and on.

On the other link you saw countries with 1/4 the population of the U.S. that have half has many crimes. You know how to compute a rate, right? Those would be rates nearly double that of the U.S.

There's no argument here. The data is right in front of you.
