Chicago is a happening place but it doesn't have a line out the door of people from all over the world trying to get in. From that, it's naturally going to be more chill.

If you're looking for a stay of a few years, both cities are great. If you're thinking more long term, Chicago wins hands down in my book, just for the cost of living.

Chicago a stressful city? Not a chance! The city is too diverse for that. Remember in 2013, diversity and race mixing equals strength!

This is true, I agree. Just saying though that in this city, safety depends on your world really. The crime is not rampant just like any other big city. I think Chicago has more big crime in the bad areas than a lot of other cities too so it skews the numbers a bit.

What are the "other big cities" where crime is rampant city-wide? I can only think of a couple possible ones in the U.S., and I'm not even sure about those. My point is that I do not think there are many large cities where the whole city is rampant with crime or the whole city is completely safe. I think most large cities are similar to Chicago in the sense that they have higher crime areas and lower crime areas. You still seem to be saying that Chicago is somehow unique in this, and I disagree.

I think you understood me wrong. I am agreeing with what you said. I meant that like any other big city, crime is not rampant in all parts. I should have said it differently.

The city used to have them, but built over them. It seems like it was done within the last 20 years.

Interesting. Are you sure it's been that recent, though? I have family and friends in Brooklyn where the buildings are well over 100 years old and there are no alleys. I don't see any signs of them in most of Manhattan, either.

The main reason chicago is less stressful than nyc on the whole is probably that people there have to work twice as much as we do just to pay their rent.
qft.

Due in large part to the Hollywood/media presence of NYC.
