You can qualify them any way you want, but shootings are shootings.

Not really. If more than 50 percent of the shootings in a specific area are taking place on a single street outside a single project, it really doesn't speak to the safety of the area much at all, or what people in/near it are likely to encounter. It's like saying your whole house is 500 degrees because you have broiler on.

Not really. Shootings related to domestic disputes or a workplace are vastly different from gang shootouts on the street. Obviously if you get shot it doesn't matter who does the shooting, but in the first cases you are very unlikely to get shot, in the second there is a much higher chance. Also, if shootings are highly localized (i.e. inside projects) they don't really speak to the safety of areas outside that location.

So now it looks like a case of "gang-related road rage". Apparently the guy who was shot was in the process of breaking the windows of the shooter's car when he was shot.

The victim was carrying a metal pipe and used it to break a window in the SUV, police said. Someone inside the SUV fired a shot, hitting the man in the right side of abdomen, the report stated.

Maybe they are forming a set on Michigan Ave.

"Police believe the gunman was referring to the Latin Kings street gang. The victim belongs to a gang and has a long arrest record, police said. The victim's record includes battery to a peace officer in 2003 and possession of a stolen car."

Moral of this and most shootings in Chicago - don't be in a gang or hang out with gang members and your odds of being shot are extremely small.

Absolutely. And if you ARE in a gang, don't get out of your car and start smashing someone's windows in. There's no way you're not going to get shot with that combination.

Exactly. If we're going to use qualifiers for shootings, that is the significant one.

Yes, you should feel about as safe as a condom in a eunuchs convention.

The answer is easy on how we can relief stress in the Loop's crime matter. Mostly if not all the gang crime(mobbings and now apparently a gang shooting) is by black youths. So why dont the police use racial profiling? It would be a key factor in whether to engage in enforcement. I'm by no means a racist, I myself am of mixed culture. Sure it's controversial but I think it will help. I work and live close to Michigan Ave, so believe me it pisses me off when trash from s^&*(hole neighborhoods come to our's and try to destroy it. I mean a couple weeks ago a group of 10 to 20 black youths ambiciously beat a doctor to the ground, just as he was leaving work late at night. What do you guys think should racial profiling be used? Why or why not.
