Remember the thread a week ago claiming the visible gang presence on the mag mile, where everyone said 'kids just being kids?'

I'm not saying the two are related, but, you can bet after something this brazen there will be a stepped up police presence in the area.

Man wounded on Mag Mile after shots fired from SUV - chicagotribune.com

Quote:
A man was shot near the corner of Michigan Avenue and Ontario Street early this morning when an SUV pulled up and someone inside shouted a gang slogan and opened fire, police said.

The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. just off Michigan Avenue as the 31-year-old man was standing next to his car, police said.

Do you plan on working until midnight or the wee hours of the morning? If not, I doubt you will see anything like this.

This was also an attack by one gang member against a peron the attacker thought was another gang member. No matter how dumb a shooter is, he is unlikely to mistake tourists from Naperville for a rival gang members. Stray bullets are a problem though. Also, a friend of mine who is African American (and most certainly was not in a gang) had a close call back in the day. So there are problems.

Ignore Davis Street. I don't know why this troll hasn't been banned yet. He continually posts on this forum and bashes Chicago in the city vs city forum. It's getting really pathetic.

The bashing is fine, the making up of facts also known as lying is not.

This is really unusual, but not unheard of. About once a year there is some sort of shooting in the Loop/River North/Streeterville area. It is always a targeted shooting - like this one or the shooting on the State St. Bridge last year. IIRC some guy shot his boss while he was leaving Union Station a few years ago. While stray bullets could be a concern, I can't recall any instances of that happening in that area at all. As others have mentioned cars are much more of a threat. People get killed or seriously injured by cars downtown about once every month, and there are smaller injuries on a weekly (if not daily) basis.

Downtown is almost completely covered by both city and private security cameras. Anyone who is stupid enough to do something like this downtown usually gets picked up fairly quickly.

Most definitely. Gangbangers have terrible aim.

There's roughly 1 gunshot homicide per year in River North alone, according to the Red Eye's tracker, and of course that doesn't include shooting victims who survive. Gold Coast has apparently has had zero homicides of any kind in at least 5 1/2 years, which is rather amazing.

I just peeped. All but three in River North outside Cabrini on Chicago Ave.

Other two were probably at those all night clubs. At least, that is the only place I ever read about people getting shot in River North with any regularity.

Someone else apparently was murdered around State and Hubbard... which is suspiciously near Rossi's! Just sayin'.
