I am interviewing for a full-time job in Evanston that I may get soon if I am lucky. Its perfect fit for my level of experience and interests.

I would live with parents for a while in western suburbs in Addison and commute by car to save money from rent for paying off my student loans (I am fresh college graduate). But it is far ride about 30 miles I noticed. It might be little difficult in winter especially between December-February/March. I would for this period get a short-term lease apartment at or under $1000 near Evanston. Is it doable?

Why short term?

To stay only during winter.

I might try staying in hotels just during snowstorms if there are any around that have reduced rates for week-long stay and if no short-term 3months or month to month leases are available.

Are you willing to rent a room rather than an apartment. Quite a few people in Evanston rent rooms to college students and a young professional would be a step up for them.

What do you mean like sublease? Most won't care and won't follow up the moment I speak to them with a foreign accent (ESL), unless I happen to luckily find another immigrant? Most people subleasing want a roommate they feel comfortable making friends with and introduce them to their cliques. I have been in States for over 5 years, went to college, lived in dorms, and no one here seemed to want to include me in their social circle, except people of my kind (nationality) that are now hard to find these days and are mostly Americanized just like other Americans or at best someone who well knows someone of my nationality. And I am even white. Chicago still feels pretty well segregated.

No, I am talking about renting a room in someone's house. My neighbor rented her third floor bedroom with kitchen privileges, I think. No roommates, just one student or person. Much cheaper than an apartment, but less amenities. I don't think you would find any problems with an accent, btw. Evanston is pretty cosmopolitan because of Northwestern. I suspect you have been living in places that did not have many foreign nationals around.

Subletting might be your best bet.

I went to DePaul. It supposedly very diverse school though I think the diverse student body was more like 50:50. I was pretty much almost never invited to parties or any outgoing activities, except permitted to spend some time inside their premises. No one knocked to my dorm apartment to visit me except for my roommates. Majority of the students in class were commuters compounding the problem. And my roommates did not like me just because they thought I am gay. I had a few acquaintances in another floor I trusted but they pretty much ditched me for the same reason a few months after spending most weekends with them. A lot of people on campus were conservative, republican and from anywhere in Midwest. Some people were nice but they were rare and not for very long around where I was.

Utilities might be a problem, especially high speed internet connection which I rely on for work. I'd rather have my own control of access to the Internet and not use cellular connection but cable or DSL. I'd rather live in a studio than 1 bedroom from someone. Sometimes I like to have a little privacy.

Oak Park Place Apartments in Oak Park, IL | Apartments.com

I can't speak for Evanston.* I don't know that Oak Park would be an answer but Oak Park Place does offer 3-10 month short leases.

Working in Evanston and commuting from Oak Park would be a problem, imo.
