Hi! I've landed an internship from Jan to May 08 in the loop, and I'm looking for a studio that's in a relatively safe area (and close to El) with a budget of round $800.
I probably have to bring my car because my job requires me to audit clients that might be of reasonable distance from downtown, though parking alone might cost me quite a lot more.

I'm wondering if any kind soul could shine some light on how to find such a place? I currently live down south in Champaign but knows very little about Chitown...

Thanks in advance!

Your best bet is to try to find a sublease for those months on craigslist.
If not, rent an apartment and sublet the rest of the year out.

There are very few short term leases in Chicago.

If you don't live downtown, parking may be free. You really don't need to live downtown if you live near the EL as it will take you right there. Then you will have your car if you need it. Wicker Park may be a good place to start searching as most of it is free street parking. Although I am not sure how many studios there are there - you could probably find a small 1 bedroom for that price, off of Division.
Otherwise, look in Lincoln Park or Lakeview... there are studios there but they cost more and parking is tough and/or expensive.

I have a big studio right by Lake Michigan. My mother is dying and I need to leave to get home. I live right across the street next to a great restaurant called Tweet. This is a really nice area. The red line is a block away. There is also a bus that runs all the way down to the metra and amtrack train station which I use all the time. There is a Jewel Osco that is two blocks away. There are great Mexican, Vietnamese, Thai and Ethiopian restaurants around my area as well. There is a Chicago gym facility as well. The local library is two blocks away too. My apartment has a parking lot as well. There is street parking too. The apartment complex has a laundry room too, so you do not have to go anywhere to do your laundry because its on the first floor. I also have a dining room set, television vacuum, lamp and snack tables and dresser that has nine drawers. I have a dresser in the walk in closet too. The kitchen has an area for stools to go like a bar area. If you want to stay longer in the place then you have the option of doing that when talking to the landlord. I have lived here for awhile and had no problems. I have great neighbors as well. I need to go back home. Please get back to me as soon as possible. You can email me at nannyforyoutrue@yahoo.com.

If you look, the previous post is over a year and a half old. Im guessing he has found housing by now.
