I never got why anyone would be proud to say they are from someplace. You live someplace, you may even love that place, but why be proud to say you are from there?

Maybe because we're proud of lots of the people who live around us and their way of life. Ask a Texan about that, or a New Yorker, or a Friscan, or even a cheesehead.

I can ask, but it doesn't mean anything to me. I am proud of my accomplishments *not* of being from a particular place.

Okay. Sounds a little self-centered though.

I love Milwaukee and I am proud to say I am from Milwaukee and I don't shy away from it but I couldn't care less about the rest of the state, if they wanted to rope everything off outside the 7 county MKE area I wouldn't protest.

I've got friends in small town Wisconsin who love everything about the cheddar universe. So much so that they've even flipped me.

Yes I know, I am aware of these people. They treat "Wisco" or "Sconnie" or "Scansin" like it's a small country and they have small country pride and hate anything not "Wisco". As far as IL goes, I don't see a lot of IL pride from people from Chicago, I have friends in LP that like to remind me that they aren't from IL but from Chicago(oddly enough he didn't even grow up in Chicago but a suburb almost an hour away and denounces his hometown). I can't see many people from Chicago having much of a connection or experience with anything outside of Chicago. Why would you ever leave the metro area for anything? besides The Dells or Door County I mean.

I think in this case "pride" means having a sense of identity based on where you're from. It gives you a sense of who you are and your place in the world.

(Psst... If you ever go to San Francisco, please, please, please don't refer to their city as "Frisco" or to the people as "Friscans".)

Is this akin to Chi-town or Chicagoland or the Chi? I don't use any of them btw it just sounds dorky, I just use metro chicago instead of Chicagoland.
