Yep, that was Brookfield. Or Lyons. Brookfield may be a decent safe community with decent schools, but much of it looks like s***, in my opinion.

The Brookield / Lyons line is actually west of 1St Ave, so many folks don't realize which is which.

Folks that actually live in Brookfield don't really have much need to access stuff on Ogden, other than maybe the CVS. The heart of Brookfield is pretty quiet. Not as cutesy as Riverside, but about as functional. The bars and such are much more family oriented and very pleasant.

I agree, it's definitely not scumsville. There are a great bunch of hidden treasures along Ogden like the Green Room (billiards), Sound Education (highly rated piano and music lessons), that Bohemian restaurant, the antique car restoration shop, etc. It's not your fancy upscale shopping district, but there are some good businesses along that stretch. There were some sketchy bars that attracted biker types that are no longer in business (Scorekeepers, Sockhops, Corner Pub). My husband knows the owners of Burlington Autobody and even worked there for one summer in high school. They do good work. He was actually at Mr. Sub's the night that Michael's Magic Touch got raided by the DEA. Brookfield should really try to put money into improving this stretch as it does look kind of dumpy.

I think Custer is the Brookfield/Lyons dividing line, which is a few blocks west of 1st Ave. Lyons is scumsville.
