Why don't we get the Chevy Cruze diesel wagon? (2012, SUVs, braking)

We don't get the wagon version period, gas or diesel.
Carmakers have learned their lesson: Americans don't buy wagons. There are numerous cars sold here with wagon versions offered everywhere else but not here.

In your tiny little miopic view of the world, VW's are terrible cars. Meanwhile, Volkswagen/Audi group is neck and neck with Toyota for the largest auto mfg in the world... probably because they sell a lot of cars.
Its not my world. Its the 'real' world. Like I said: please go out and look up just about any of the most recent quality and reliability reports overall by brand. VW is as even of late STILL close to the bottom rung of that report. They make over-engineered pieces of crap. What they do they do well: the INITIAL fit and finish, handling, and interior designs are excellent. Their LONG TERM reliability ratings are amongst the worst in the industry. Yet they get somewhat of a free pass somehow. Practically every other person I know who has owned these cars has had serious and sometimes repeated, frequent problems with their VW's. Relatives of my family included.
All I'll say is that we have had 7 or 8 Toyotas and NONE and I mean none of them has ever had a major issue, and ALL made it well past 200,000 miles, and a few past 300,000 miles without a hickup. VW isn't even remotely close to that level of quality, and hence why they are at the bottom of the list and Toyota's brands are at the top, with GM somewhere in between. Hence why if there were an automaker like GM, whom is ranked higher in reliability, I would choose something from them versus something from a fairly low ranked automaker.
Exactly. I don't understand how raising it a few inches can suddenly make something look cool. If anything good comes out of CAFE, it will be that automakers will have to build more wagons because of fuel economy. People like to whine and complain that the Explorer is no longer BOF and RWD, but how many actually took it off road or needed to tow that much? Just buy the Expedition or an F-150 if it's that much of a necessity.
I don't get people whining about the Explorer either. The new one in my opinion is the nicest looking explorer made to date. The "old" one was really long in the tooth and as mentioned- nobody really takes them off roading anyway.
Q: Why don't they offer X for sale?
A: They don't feel they would sell enough, at a sufficient enough price, to turn a sufficient enough profit.
Too many Americans shun wagons. Particularly smaller wagons and hatchbacks.
Now, as was mentioned, we love them disguised as a TRUCK, which means riding on a high suspension.
There is a little more to that too. Automakers prefer selling them to us as trucks too, because the federal regulations governing vehicles classified as trucks are not as stringent, which makes them cheaper to design and build. Automakers then get a higher profit margin selling out of them.
The last two domestic wagons that I can recall are the Ford Focus and the Dodge Magnum.
I think part of the problem is that some of the wagons (CTS and TSX) offered here are too small behind the seats to make it practical.
I think the Cruze Diesel wagon will sell if it is priced right. However, VW diesels are a status symbol for many so you can't just price it the same as the VW.
The thing is that I believe there are a lot of Americans like myself who are looking for.... I suppose you could say 'practical' small wagons. Not the ones that are more like hatchbacks or big wagons. But true, small wagons. The Cruze EU spec wagon Ive seen looks to be one of those cars because its four doors with ordinary proportions and a full loading area in the rear. There seems to have been few of these types of cars sold here. The 90's Ford Escort wagon ( really just a Mazda) along with the Mazda 3 wagons were sold as such as too was the Camry Wagon ( anyone remember those?) as well as the Honda Accord and Civic wagons.
