We have several computers we no longer use for business, and would like to donate them. Is there a place to donate old computers, that maybe gets them to people who need them in Charlotte?

I don't know where one is but I would highly recommend to you that you destroy the old hard drives especially if you were using these for business purposes. If you have a computer tech support person you should have them run Boot N Nuke or some other utility to wipe the drive.

Or simply take the drives out and smash them with a sledgehammer and donate the PC without drives.

Goodwill (http://www.goodwillsp.org/computers.html - broken link) accepts computer donations. They have a Computer Works (http://www.goodwillsp.org/computerworks.html - broken link) store.

How to donate a computer (http://www.goodwillsp.org/howtodonateacomputer.html - broken link)

Holy resurrected thread Batman!

Hopefully, CC, you are just kidding. Actually, you do have things to hide on your PC. Credit card info, log in information, etc. are all things that you don't want others to have.

Not necessarily. People store all kinds of stuff on their computers, including emails, business information (customer information?), partial or whole credit card data, addresses, receipts, photos, etc. -- things that are no one else's business, especially in this age of identity theft.

If you're getting rid of a computer, it's good practice to ensure that that stuff is not accessible by the next person.
