Charlotte is mostly burbs and IMO is neither dog or bike friendly overall. Sure, there are places you can go but the traffic alone makes it difficult to get out on a bike or walk long distances w/ a dog on a sidewalk.

I'll qualify that with a "if you're in the 'burbs". Which is true for suburbs no matter where they are.
Center city, South End, Dilworth, Elizabeth, Chantilly, Plaza-Midwood... pretty dang walkable.
The Greens at Birkdale Village. Our home is .5 miles from the "Town Square". Around this is Positano's, Brixx, Corkscrew, Fox and Hound, Red Rocks, Starbucks and Dresslers. My wife, dog, and I have spent many a morning, afternoon, or evening sipping, eating or drinking outside with our dog. Several other places in the Village. Very canine friendly.
Interesting. On the walk score Web site that NCGirl posted, my house got a 62. We live just south of Plaza-Midwood, but within walking distance of it. I would have thought our score would have been higher, especially after DH and I ran all kinds of errands on Saturday, all on foot: grocery store, post office, bank.
I'm a bit miffed! LOL
