How about one of the many Greenway's in Charlotte?

Park and Rec Greenways (http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/Park+and+Rec/Greenways/Home.htm - broken link)

I'd recommend McAlpine Creek or Six Mile Greenway

Enjoy, I love walking on them!!

Head up to Sardis Road and you'll see the parking area for the McAlpine Greenway. You can bike/walk all the way past Independence Blvd if you want to. It's kind of neat to go under Monroe Road and Independence At the beginning of the greenway after you've walked under Sardis Road you can take the trail to the left over the creek into the woods and walk all the way to Boyce Park. It is very shady and the park is nice. You won't have any shade on the greenway from Sardis to the other side of Monroe Road- so wear that sunscreen!

Check out Anne Springs Close Greenway in Ft Mill. It's fantastic! Hiking, biking, trail riding, lakes, woods, pastures, a couple of old historic cabins, a horse barn, field trial barn and a nature center.

Or, go up to Latta Plantation and the Raptor Center in NW Charlotte.

Can't go wrong with any of these including the greenways. Ann Springs Close charges a small fee if you are not a member.

Try McDowell Nature Preserve on Hwy 49 just before South Carolina. It has many trails including one that's paved and flat.

The trail through the Anne Springs Close Greenway crosses Steele Creek on a suspension bridge. The fee is $2 per person. Quite a bargain.
