It's exciting that the folks who have left their Christmas lights up all year will soon be able to get use out of them again! Do people that do this add a little more each year, or is it strictly out of laziness?
You mean - you have seen people who leave up their Christmas lights all year? ROFL!!! I have not seen that in years, but I did grow up in an area where a guy lived who did that. He never took his lights down. Year after year, we would drive by his ramshackle house and the lights were still dangling down from the gutters, LOL!!! Then come Christmas, he flipped the switch and there it was - Instant Christmas!!!
He did tack the droopy ones back up once a year b/f he threw the switch. But his were just outlining his house - you know - like a box. Up and down the gutters . . . and a cedar tree out front, that kept growing and the lights ended up being only half-way up, cause he never added more lights at the bottom. I guess he just got a longer extension cord, HEE HEE HEE.
Let me delve a little more into my interest in the topic on the homeless. For a little bit of a review if you don't already know from my previous posts, I live in Huntersville and work in Charlotte. My wife has a congenital, debilitating, progressive disease that's getting worse literally by the day. Two of my brothers live with us, due to their lack of employment and inability to find even basic employment. One was previously self-employed as so-owner of a business, so he is not eligible for any type of unemployment assistance from the state.
I need to place my wife into an Assisted Living facility ASAP. Given their going monthly rate of 6500, and our combined monthly net income of about 5900, I come up a little shy, but hopefully I could make up that difference if I work a second job. However, that obviously will leave me with nothing for food, mortgage, cars, etc., so presumably I'll go through a forecosure and reposessions. DSS tends to frown on folks seeking assistance who have jobs, so the best I could hope for from them might be food stamps.
Now, if I go this route, that will put the three of us guys out onto the street. I can't comment on what my brothers would do at that point. Obviously, my major concern is that I'm able to continue working and can keep making the Assisted Living payments, as well as to continue to carry health insurance for us both.
OK: Am I the only one that is affected by this? Ani did some research, but, that is it. Is there not ANYTHING that we can offer this poor man at this holiday season?

I know. It is a heckuva conundrum. Superk has been trying to find resources for a long time. He is not just starting to try to figure this out. His wife's illness is progressive.

I am sure that Superk has gone down this route but hey just in case. Firstly I don't know what Superk's wife is suffering from but say for instance it's MS - what about contacting the MS Society to see what information that have. I am sure that there are others in the same predicament so they may be able to point people in the right direction. Another idea would be to have someone live in and give them a fee for looking after your wife plus room and board. As I said these routes may have been visited already but there has to be a solution. This is America for God's sake. American's are off saving the world but can't seem to get their head around socialised medicine. It's a disgrace in this day and age that there are people suffering like this.

It's vey common & very popular in the Philly area Ani. People who do it use white lights & they light them all year round.

What do you propose? I have a thought in mind, but it's only a small piece of a very large puzzle (but it's a piece I can contribute). I started a thread about this very type thing, and a meet up. It's easy for all of us to express disgust- but when the rubber meets the road, what are we going to do?
Scarlet - dear me. That is just not like you to be complaining! You must have had to deal with someone who is being difficult today. Well I say - POOOH - hope you can banish them from your kingdom.
Taking a break. Been cookin' and made 2 gallons of iced tea. It is getting on towards 5 pm. Seems like its about time for a little Southern Comfort on ice . . . anyone wanna join me in about 45 mins????
