Steele Creek is quite nice. I have a lot of friends who live in the RiverGate area and they LOVE IT.

I personally live in the steele creek area and to be honest, if I could go back in time I would have picked tega cay or fort mill. Those places offer better schools, cheaper taxes and you are further from some of the bad parts.

That said, there are definitely desireable places to live within steele creek and there is a lot of planned future development in the area (which is what enticed us about 18 months ago), but we have been unpleasantly surprised by the increase in crime here. As the other posters mentioned... its the proximity to areas like nations ford rd and s tryon between arrowood and moss rd. Now, i'm not sure if those areas are technically steele creek but they are under the CMPD steele creek division and it does impact the surrounding areas.

Hopefully the land and school bonds will be approved and we will get the new elementary schools and public library among other things. Personally, I think the jury is still out on how things will look 5 years from now... but there is definitely reason for both optimism and concern.

.
This is exactly what we did. It takes me 5 mins longer from SC to get to work than it would from Steele Creek and my tax bill just went DOWN (and they were pretty darn cheap compared to Meck to begin with). Plus, I am actually closer to the Ballantyne area so I don't have all too far to go for anything.

There's a practically brand new public library on Steele Creek right near the intersection of 160 and 49. Southwest Middle School is behind the new library - it's really a very nice facility.

Your right, that is a very nice library. But because it is the nicest library around it gets pretty crowded during peak times so they are planning another bigger one in the berewick community to service the area as well. That one is continguent on the land bond I believe.

I also just heard they are putting in a real ER just south of the rivergate complex on tryon.

Sometimes ya just gotta go there! Even if you go to church every Sunday, you can't tell me you did not get a chuckle out of that!
