Hello,
I am considering a move to the Charlotte area. I am wondering, does Charlotte or a nearby town have a really nice downtown that you can while away an afternoon walking from shop to shop with lots of trees, coffee shops/cafe's?

Yeah.
Uptown Charlotte (it's mainly a business district, not a lot of shopping but museums, gallaries and restaurants abound).
East Boulevard
Birkdale at Lake Norman
Downtown Davidson
Downtown Concord (Union Street specifically)
Etc.
