Some of the people who comment on Union county in this thread probably haven't visited it in many years... Along those lines you can't compare a county to a city (i.e. compare Union county to Gastonia).

Based on the details here I would suggest it's definitely worth looking at for you. Especially Marvin - which is located right over the border from Meck county, is horse farm city, and allows you easy access to all that Ballantyne offers. Ballantyne has country clubs, restaurants, shopping, etc, etc. Off hours you're at the airport in about 30min. You can be at Southpark Mall (high end shopping) up Rea Rd in about 25 minutes.

Look at Mooresville & Davidson. A drive along Hwy 3 & other roads like, Odell School Rd. & Shearers Rd. to see for sale signs for lots with the acreage you're looking for. There's several horse farms in the area. I can't remember the name of it at the moment, but in this area of Davidson, there's a subdivision with an equestrian center connected to it. Good school, both public & private, are in the area. It's close to shopping & uptown Charlotte. It's close to Concord Arpt (regional) &, depending on where you live, 30 to 40 mins to Charlotte-Douglas Arpt.

Try researching this community....Black Horse Run in Indian Land, SC....within 5-7 minutes of one of the most desirable areas in Charlotte. You may feel a bit country driving to this community, but it's like a different world once you cross into Charlotte.

Wow....that is not at all what we saw or have heard. Since in originally posted this thread I have found tons of places that nit only fit my criteria but go beyond it! I have ZERO interest in any of the States you mentioned.....I mean Philly??? I think not! Thanks anyways though.

To anyone else who seems to have negative opinions on Charlotte.....please keep your opinions to yourself! This thread is here because WE love Charltte and have made the final decision to move here. I simply needed opions on specific areas from locals who live or have lived here. So if you don't have any productive, nice or informative comments.....please keep them to yourself. Thank you!

I know you two have an affinity for this state , but there is nothing around here that suits your exacting tastes , it's either/or. Equestrian areas here are out in areas where alot of rurality exists. Aside from a few places , everything around the outskirts is basically rural , with exception to maybe the aforementioned Union , and possibly areas of western Cabarrus , which , as mentioned prior , will place you all quite distant from CLT Douglas. No intention to 'burst your bubble' , so to speak , but many developments , while geared toward 'families' , are of like design , and thus suburbia. Not suburbia , as in OC , but suburbia as in stale , wannabe upscale , facades imitating everywhere else on Earth that is classed as 'New Victorian' , 'Italian Villa' , 'Hip' , or some other cheesy style that is proliferated throught the metro. You may have/have not noticed , but everything in alot of 'communities' here falls under 'jurisdiction' of HOA's , or some other fools with too much time on their hands attempting to tout their 'dystopic ideals' upon the residents in lieu of abuse of 'power'. My suggestion for you all would be Philadelphia , Vermont , N.Hampshire , or Texas. Anywhere other than here. I do not know what your take on the areas you visited were , aside from disdain for Gaston , but demand for your specifics does not exist here without a choice of 2 'poisons' , suburbia in close proximity to the city , or Gondwanaland. Apologies if I tread upon your dreams. Maybe in 50 , or 100 years , longevity willing , it may exist , but for now , it's all a shallow , empty farce of true neighborhoods.

This was not meant as negativity , coming from a CLT native. This is what I've seen for several years driving throughout this region.

I don't think that that poster meant anything bad. I would suspect that the reference to Philadelphia came from a pretty good knowledge of the subject, Devon Horse Show and Country Fair .

I stand by the recommendation that I made earlier. This thread might give you some assistance. https://www.city-data.com/forum/charl...otte-area.html

Good luck.
