Hello,

Just wanted to get opinions on the South Tryon area, I'm considering renting and or buying in that area. It looks ok on google maps, but I know looks can be deceiving.

Thanks

It's better south of Carowinds Blvd (on S Tryon) towards Steele Creek. North of that is questionable although there are still some decent places around there. Where exactly are you looking?

That is a very good area actually. I have several friends who live over there. If it wasn't so far from my work, I would probably live over there.

Thanks all!!

I'm looking at a neighborhood just south of Carowinds (near the SC border). But I would like to know which areas to stay away from in general as I would consider expanding my search of the area. I'd love to rent in Ballantyne but the thought of the traffic that I've read about is steering me away from there.

That area is called Steele Creek. I and a few other regular posters live in the area. It is a great area and has grown a lot in recent years. Here is a map, everything in the green border is in Steele Creek. I disagree that most of north of Carowinds Blvd is questionable. There are some industrial areas along Westinghouse but since it is nonresidential you wouldn't be living there. The most questionable areas are in Upper Steele Creek, northeast of Arrowood Rd.

If you feel comfortable posting the name of the neighborhoods you are considering we can give you feedback on them.

We bought a house in Ayrsley (S. Tryon and 485) a few years back and really like the neighborhood. The neighborhood is a mix of newer houses, apartments, shops and restaurants. We've met a lot of great neighbors, many of whom would fall in the "young professionals" category with some families.

Sure...I'll post as I come across the neighborhoods. But I was interested in the Enclave at Rivergate. Just north of Steele Creek crossing.

That's pretty much the heart of Steele Creek. I'm betting you'd really like the area
