Asking for a friend who used to live in Mt Holley, now lives here. Looking to buy lower-priced cartons of cigarettes near following areas: within few blocks of SouthPark Mall OR near Park Road/Woodlawn OR close to the Walmart at S. Tryon near Arrowood.
I don't know of anywhere in particular but sometimes a store will have a special deal on a certain brand. You can sign up at the website of the cigarette company and get some pretty good coupons. I have noticed that the Harris Teeter sometimes has 'clearance' cigarettes. I quit smoking a few years back and I never remember 'clearance' cigarettes. I am so glad I quit - couldn't afford to smoke now!
I agree. Being as close to SC as you are, that's where you will find the significant savings.
The state tax on cigarettes in NC is currently $3.50 a carton. In South Carolina, it's $0.70 cents a carton. I'm not sure how many cartons you can transport across the state line at a time. There is a legal limit.
If you are a smoker it would be a good idea to stock up prior to May 1. The current federal tax on cigarettes is being raised from 39 cents per pack to 1.01 per pack. This would mean a $6.20 increase per carton across the board. FYI, South Carolina is looking to increase their taxes by .50 per pack. They are currently working on the tax increase.

Are you sure the increase in federal tax isn't Wednesday, April 1, 2009?
My BAD! You are correct. My internal calendar is really messed up!
Probably won't see an increase at the retail level on Wednesday. The major players, Phillip Morris and RJR raised their wholesale prices substantially a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of the April 1st federal tax increase. Apparently, they are responsible for collection and payment of the tax at the manufacturing level.
